Class profiles

I thought you might be interested in knowing a little bit more about the characteristics of the group this year, so I’ve compiled a statistical snapshot of some of your responses to the survey. I’m not sure what to make of them, but perhaps this is something that we can talk about more as the year progresses.

With regard to music taste, there is both considerable similarity and divergence across the class. R & B, Hip Hop and Pop are dominant as is EDM. Country and metal are less popular than they probably are among the general public. Not sure why this might be. Also there were some genres that appeared only once, but aren’t listed here such as Jazz, Classical, Punk and Arabic music.

There is an even greater shared experience of where music is listened to: in transit or at home. There are perhaps a few other places, but these are the most frequent by a considerable margin.

There is a similar consensus around live music, with most people enjoying it for reasons of atmosphere, energy and authenticity.

In spite of being enthusiastic about live music, you are less positive about the current state of music. Nearly half of you feel that music is worse today than it was before.

Finally, in terms of where people are from, most of you are from Southern Ontario. A few of you are coming from further away (which you’ll see if you zoom out on the map).
