My apologies for the lateness of posting this, but I had completed the post and then was unable successfully publish it. I am not having those troubles today.

In terms of the assignment, you should use either MLA or APA format. There are guides for both available through the writing centre at Purdue University. 

Note, there are different sections explaining how to cite archival material, newspaper articles, books and electronic sources. You can follow the main text of your assignment with a section for references or works cited.
